I’m Gabriel. I’m originally from Mexico, based in Edmonton, and I’ve spent most of my career behind a camera shooting films, commercials, sports, and weddings.
Different worlds, but they’ve all taught me the same thing: pay attention. The good stuff usually happens fast, and when you least expect it.
YOU DON’T NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING.
Seriously. Most people I photograph tell me they’re awkward in front of a camera before we ever start.
That’s fine.
You don’t need to show up knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. We’ll figure it out. We’re here to have fun. And if we’re not having fun, why the f*ck are we even doing it?
I WANT TO EXPERIENCE YOUR WEDDING TOO.
No, not just for the free dinner and drinks.
The closer I am to what’s actually happening, the better I can photograph it. I want to know who your people are. Who’s going to cry during the speeches. Who’s going to be a disaster on the dance floor. Who you’re going to want a photograph of twenty years from now.
I’d rather feel like another person at the wedding who just happens to be really good with a camera than some random dude watching everything from the outside.
THE OTHER ME.
Outside of weddings, I work as a filmmaker and cinematographer.
That world has shaped a lot of how I see photographs. Light, composition, movement, timing, and knowing when something is about to happen before it actually does.
But weddings are different. There’s no second take.
And I think that’s what I like about them.
MAYBE WE’LL GET ALONG. MAYBE WE WON’T.
